Design Inspiration Interiors Styles

There’s nothing like summer holiday – domestic or far flung – to give a little inspiration on the home front.   Holiday homes, hotels and hideaways provide a wealth of ideas for colours, textures, furniture and lighting and are also great for evoking precious holiday memories, even on rainy winter’s days.

Ibiza Idyll

The Balearics have always been known for their easy and understated cool – often with a nod to the hippy chic of the 1960s and 1970s Ibiza. A clean white interior, with a breezy island feel; modern comfortable furniture combined with eclectic and colourful accessories, accent cushions, ornaments and artwork.

Andalucian Escape

Spanish villas can be modern or traditional, but are always a cool haven of calm with a splash of colour. Rustic and traditional: white-washed plaster walls and heavy wooden carved furniture natural fabrics and white linen, offset with hand-painted colourful tiles and visible hand-made earthenware and crockery. Modern and airy: contemporary furniture in white or natural colours, with accessories and accent paintings – preferably by local artists. Always beautiful with a white or muted backdrop and highly colourful accents in reds and blues – the colours of Andalucia!

French Chateau

Not all French homes are shabby chic!  The French chateau style is beautifully eclectic, with a love of exquisite furniture, antique ornaments, heavy curtains inside painted shutters, often elegantly rich soft furnishings and, of course, feature lighting. The French love their crystal and chandeliers are always a feature of every Chateau worth its ‘sel’!

Millionaire’s hideaway

Millionaires’ hideaways can be located anywhere from Montserrat to Marbella, but think clifftop/hilltop James Bond/Mission Impossible style!   Ultra modern with all mod cons; chic, masculine and bespoke. Clean lines, minimalistic with lots of space and hidden storage. High spec kitchens and bathrooms and high gloss surfaces – marble, polished slate, acrylic and stainless steel!

Cape Cod Cottage

Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket style is based on the calming colours of the sea – white, beige, blue and grey, featuring lots of washed tongue and groove walls, painted wooden floors, nautical accessories, striped or printed materials and accent lighting, such as wall sconces and beautiful table lamps.

Top tip: Always take a style notebook on holiday with you, take photos and notes of every inspiring interior idea.
